LEGACY HERITAGE

1994

Collection of the Artist.

This semi-petrified artwork alludes to the growth of the new forests from a primeval resource. The cast bronze 'barb' tree forms inlaid on the ancient surface reference new plantations and refer to the legacy of loss.

I've used the weather worn and eroded outer section from a log of Kauri recovered from a swamp in Dargaville in Northland.
Some years ago I received confirmation of the age of the wood, carbon-dated at 30,000 years, just as the work was returned to me as the prospective purchaser had believed the small holes had borer.
I was delighted to have the work home.

Dimensions: Height 2100mm x Width 560 tapering to 160mm x Depth 120mm.

Materials: Salvaged ancient kauri and bronze castings with patina.
