The carved Hinuera stone flame references the human spirit. 
The three undulating spaces between the jarra beams reference substance, the weight of matter and the life force.

I included the following statement with the exhibition:

I see my work as a combination of my response to three themes: the physical - personal and organic; the political - contemporary survival issues; and the historic - symbolic and archetypal.
