Words and phrases relating to the harbour and ocean, were laser cut into each panel of the shell. The text is changed to make each work in this series unique.
I referenced our Pacific isolation, mythology, history and loss. The text includes expressions about navigation and coastal places that have influenced my life and the current plunder of the ocean by over fishing and pollution.
The softly curving shell form is the result of many days of mechanically pressing, shaping and forming the panels, before assembling the sections.
Nautilus Whispers won The People's Choice Award 2007.
