Rewarewa Creek

1997

Commissioned by Waitakere City in 1997

This was the first collaborative Artwork footbridge in New Zealand.
The inspiration for the bridge was the form and colour of the Rewarewa flower and seed pod. I had been commissioned to work in collaboration with City Design Architects, Auckland.

At the beginning of the project was known as the Hugh Brown Drive Footbridge, but on looking at maps of the location we found the creek was named the Rewarewa Creek.

In the process of the commission we managed to reinstate the names of both footbridge and creek; now laser cut into both ends of the footbridge. The hard and soft landscaping, bridge lighting and approaches were included in the design.

Dimensions: Length 36 metres.

Materials: Steel, saligna and macrocarpa and cast bronze.
