The Space Between
1997
Collection of the Artist.
The work acknowledges the delicacy of parent and child relationships and explores the myth of Persephone and Demeter.
The ephemeral central column, surrounded by a nest of pine needles is formed from connected threads of knotted manila and muka fibre.
The two-metre, vertical paper panels are made from muka fibre, to reference nurturing and protection.
During the paper-making process each panel had a strengthening thread inserted between the layers of paper pulp as 'veins' of muka and manila fibre, copper, steel or brass wire.
Dimensions: Installation size variable: paper panels each Length 1800mm x Width 250mm.
Materials: Hand made muka fibre paper with veins of Manilla and muka fibre, steel, copper and brass wire, and a nest of pine needles.
